After studying Theatre and Media Science, Sociology and Book Studies I finished my Magister (equivalent to MA) with the master’s thesis “Electronic Commerce – Interface- and Website-Design in the business-to-consumer market” in 2005, followed by a PhD in Media Science with the doctoral thesis “Network Media – Exemplified Usage in World of Warcraft” in 2008. From 2008 to 2011 I worked as a research assistant for the interdisciplinary project “Second Product Lifecycle Strategies for High Tech Devices to enhance the innovation capability of small and medium organizations”. The Institute for Book Studies designed, tested, and evaluated the usefulness of smartphones and mobile software for publishing houses to improve creativity processes. From 2010 to 2011, funded by the University Mainz, I I focused on cultural magazines in Germany from 1945 to the present. The project aimed at establishing a new media research object that combines certain functions of books and newspapers. Additionally in 2011, funded by the research focus „Media Convergence“ I contributed to the collaboration ”Transition of the book industry in the network society“ aimed at establishing a center for international book statistics in Mainz. From October 2011 onwards I am working as a postdoctoral research assistant at the Books Studies at the University Erlangen-Nürnberg for attaining qualification as a lecturer in the field of media history, reading research, and media theory. My main subjects of interest are the relationships between different media in the mass media system (defined by Niklas Luhmann) and the change of functions and benefits of book communication in the changing media environment of periodical print media, audio-visual media, and digital network media.
